Questions on rotary joints

Q: Is it possible to use a rotary joint for operation with no rotation, intermittent rotation, or low-rotation speed (a few rotations per minute)?

A: In general, a rotary joint is not suitable for nonrotating, intermittent rotating, or low-speed rotating operation. However, we are providing OPM series (products with type names beginning with OP) as customized products suitable for such operation. Contact our sales representative for more information.

Q: Are the fluid inlet (supply port) and outlet (discharge port) specified?

A: The fluid inlet and outlet are not specified. You can select them according to your equipment.

Q: Which thread direction (left or right) is best for the roll side thread that secures a rotary joint?

A: An installation thread must be such that it is tightened when a roll is operated. Select a left-hand thread for a roll that rotates clockwise when viewed from the rotary joint installation side, and select a right-hand one for a roll that rotates counterclockwises.

Q: Is a product on which a connecting port and a rotation stopper are installed direction from the catalog available?

A: It is available. Please let our sales representative know your demand as it is handled as a customized product.

Q: Please let us know a product that can be used in a vacuum condition.

A: For this product, please contact our sales representative.

Q: Can the product be installed and used with the inspection hole facing in directions other than down?

A: Be sure to install the product so that the inspection hole faces downward. If this hole is directed in other directions, leakage cannot be detected in the early stage

Q: Can this hole be blocked?

A: Do not block the inspection hole. If it is blocked, leakage cannot be detected in the early stage

Q: Does a flange connection type product include a gasket?

A: It includes a shaft end gasket. Stud bolts, hex., nuts, and spring washers are also included

Q: What is the expected product lifetime?

A: It depends on use conditions (fluid, pressure, temperature, and rotation speed). It also depends on production installation conditions.

Q: The thread direction of the product is 'RH', but it seems to be indicated as 'R' on the product nameplate.

A: R is short for RH and indicated on a product previously sold. This idea is also applied to LH and L.

Q: The thread direction is indicated as "L-R". What does this mean?

A: 'L" indicates the thread direction of the rotor, and "R" indicates thread direction of the internal pipe. "R-L" indicates opposite meaning.

Q: We cannot rotate the rotor of the newly bought product

A: If transmission torque from the rotor side is lower than starting torque, the rotor cannot be rotated. Starting torque is higher than dynamic torque, and starting torque becomes even higher when wringing occurs.

Q: A substance like oil is leaking from the ball bearing.

A: After a long-time storage or depending on service environment, oil released from the ball bearing grease may seep from the ball bearing gap. Wipe it off with a cloth. Consult with our sales representative if oil seepage has negative impact on use conditions.
